Place Value

The value of a number gives as an idea on how big or small a number is. It is better understood when one makes use of the place value chart. The place value refers to the position of the numeral in the Place Value Chart. Here in the Philippines we follow the Decmal System which make use of the base ten.

Examples:
Numbers, such as 943, have three digits.  Each digit is a different place value.
The left digit is the hundreds' place.  It tells you that there are 9 hundreds.
The last or right digit is the ones' place which is 3 in this example. The middle digit is the tens which is 4 in this example. It tells you that there are 4 tens Therefore, there are 9 sets of 100, plus 4 tens, plus 3  in the number 943.
